Roof in the Trossachs
In early 2011, I sought a number of quotations for an extensive re-roofing project for our home near Callander. The property was partially roofed in Caithness stone and so the change to Burlington slate would take some planning and strategy, involving the approval of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.
I knew of Angus Young by his excellent reputation in the area and, I have to say, I was really impressed with him from our first meeting. He came across as a man of integrity - and that was proved time and time again during the project. Angus' quote for the work, although competitive, was not the cheapest but I soon appreciated that there were reasons for the slightly increased costings, such as copper nails and double nailing of all slates.
Angus and his team started the project, and indeed each day, on time. The project was extended from the estimate of four to just under six months, due to unexpected problems. However, Angus tackled the unexpected with great grace and worked tirelessly to complete the project. He kept us informed at all times of any changes to plans and gave us a daily report on progress. I found Angus delightful to work with he and his staff became good friends of our family!
I would recommend Angus and his company unreservedly. Two years on from the work being undertaken we still marvel at the standard of the work. Put simply, we are delighted! It is important that any potential client has total confidence in using a contractor for roofing work, which is frequently costly and can run into unanticipated problems. Angus Young offers that confidence.

SCOUTS STATION ROOF
Hertfordshire Scouts have owned and operated Lochearnhead Scout Station since 1962 as an outdoor centre giving access to some of the most beautiful hills and lochs in Central Scotland.
When we first acquired the Station, it was in a run down and derelict state. Working parties travelling up at the weekend restored it to a usable state and improvement works have continued ever since.
However, after 50 years of exposure to the sometimes wild Scottish elements, the Management Committee decided to invest in a new roof covering and a refurbishment of the glass canopy. The decision was made to try and get as close as possible to the original building design and detailing.
We were fortunate that the roofing element of the work was won, competitively, by Angus Young Roofing Specialists. The 1960’s concrete tiles were replaced with Burlington Best Slates laid in random widths and in diminishing courses. Detailing that was welcomed by the National Park Planning Team.
Angus and his team worked lovingly on the roof in all weathers, tackling hidden problems of rotten timber with consummate professional skill. Whilst being proactive in helping us find solutions that were sound and effective, at no time did Angus try to inflate the cost of the additional works but was keen to make sure the finished job was one he could be proud of and confident that it would stand the test of time.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Angus to anyone who has a roofing project that requires care and diligence and is looking for a Contractor who cares about the project as if it were his own home.

ROOF IN GLEN LYON
We have used Angus Young Roofing for about 10 years to replace a slate roof on one of the cottages here in glen Lyon and to perform annual maintenance and occasional repairs at both the cottage and the Lodge. We couldn’t wish for better service. Strongly recommended.”

SLATE ROOF, KING'S PARK, STIRLING
When we were due to replace our leaking and dilapidated roof, we wanted to do so to a high standard and a traditional style in keeping with the age of the property (built 1901) and the requirements of the King’s Park conservation area. This was a major investment and it was very important to us to find a contractor with high standards and professional integrity. From our first contact with Angus Young, when he provided us with a clear and comprehensive quotation, he was utterly professional. He listened carefully to our requirements and provided helpful and impartial advice about appropriate materials, repair methods and costs. He explained everything that was going on with the job throughout the period of the contract and updated us regularly on progress, including showing us photographs of specific aspects of the roof repair (before, during and after).
The quality of the work is clear to see (from the before and after photographs). No detail was overlooked as the quality of his work to the roof above the dormer window at the front of the house demonstrates. He also took great care in replacing the cast iron guttering, ensuring that it was correctly positioned and replacing the old rotten fascia boards with like for like replacements.
This was a major job which lasted for nearly two months. Throughout, Angus managed the contract with great care and respect, liaising with the scaffolding suppliers, the stonemason (who undertook repairs to the chimneys), and the external painter. His approach minimised the disruption for us.
We could not be more pleased with the results. Angus comes highly commended for the exemplary quality of his workmanship and professionalism of his approach to doing business.

RE-ROOF, TAYNUILT, OBAN
Our sincere thanks to Angus and his team for all their work re-roofing our house. The project was a real challenge, a complex multilevel traditional cut & pitch construction with a shallow pitch and sited in a high exposure area.
Despite its relatively remote location, Angus was willing to
provide a quotation and the guys worked flexible hours and planned their work to make best use of the available weather windows.
The roof had suffered many years of neglect and poor repairs and on stripping it became evident that it would also need re-raftering.
Angus had good working relations with an architect and structural engineer who were able to advise on some of the more complex details.
His good communication and timekeeping together with a high level of attention to detail throughout made it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for us all.
